This Month in Social Studies
Social Studies November 7th, 2007In social studies, we have been learning about Jamestown. It is an old forgotten colony. What we have done so far is “A Captain’s Decision,” where we decided on where we would settle on a map, based on what we knew about the land and who would be in the settlement. We watched a movie called “Secrets of the Dead.” It was a movie that told us about the archaelogical digs going on there and the artifacts they are finding at Jamestown in Virginia. We did a virtual voyage from England to Jamestown in Computer.
Now we are learning about Plimoth. We have done a reading where we had to answer questions about the Pilgrims and the Powhatan Indians. We highlighted and underlined the answers we found. We also watched the “Voyage on the Mayflower” and learned about the inside of the ship. We also did skits on groups of PilgrimsĀ and Powhatans meeting each other for the first time and thought about the customs they would share, and the misunderstandings that would happen. We are getting ready for our trip to Plimoth, which is November 15-16.
